Are you doubtful whether your MCAT scores are sufficient for you to apply in a medical degree of your choice?
A “good” MCAT score is something that gets you close to the minimum percentage required for your targeted medical schools. In the United States, the mean MCAT score needed for the students admitted in an MD program in 2017–2018 falls between 510 and 511, with a mean GPA of 3.71.
The maximum possible mark obtained in MCAT is 528. Thus the average score in MCAT is 500. AAMC suggests that the med school admission committees check out the candidates having a score nearing the average, rather than expecting a higher score.
The MCAT is a scaled exam. This means that the raw score you’ve secured (based on the number of questions you got right) is converted into a scaled score that takes into account the difficulty of the questions.
Every section in the MCAT exam is marked on a scale of 118–132 (maximum). Your total MCAT score, that is the sum of each of your section scores, is between 472–528. The various versions of the test have different levels of difficulty, thus the scale varies from one MCAT administration to the next.
You’ll be given a percentile rank with the MCAT scores to enable better comparison of your marks with other test takers. There were 268,493 administrations of the MCAT from 2019 to 2020. The average total score was 500.9 and the standard deviation was 10.6.

If you have a low GPA then you’re required to score high in MCAT to compensate for it. Else you proceed with lower MCAT scores. Also try to utilise resources like the MSAR (Medical School Admissions Requirements) database to assist you in comparing your grades and scores to the average scores for the med schools on your list.
Increasing your odds of getting admitted depends on a lot besides good MCAT scores. It requires a combination of the following in your med school application :
Medical schools are expecting a complete package, rather than good scores and maximum GPA.

Best thing about Vivek Gupta Sir is his selfless counselling. As I am already a BSC/ MSC, he suggested me to go to Philippines as I was able to get straight admission into MD and this finishes my entire course in 4 years flat. In any other country, it would have taken by 5.5-6 years. Ms Kanimojhi in Chennai office of GKWorks was equally supportive in coordination regarding documents, departure and all other formalities.
We live 100 Km’s away from Varanasi. The internet connection in our town is very weak and my parents are not that educated. For us, understanding the word RTGS was also very difficult. Thanks to Amit Pandey Sir, who is Gkworks Varanasi incharge, he helped us to do all small things. Going with us to get forex to helping us doing RTGS for fee payment, he was always there with us. He only helped us to apply for passport online and went with us to passport office Varanasi. Such support at ground level was provided by GKworks team both in Varanasi and Delhi.
My parents were not very comfortable to send me abroad especially my mother as I am the only son of my parents. I really wanted to become a doctor and thus approached Hemant Mishra Sir, director of Bareilly branch of GKWorks. He went out of his way to convince my mother. He would have come 5 times to my home, invited us to his office and home 10 times before my mother was finally convinced. It is only due to Hemant Sir in Bareilly that I am pursuing my course today. I wish GKworks and especially Bareilly branch all the very best to help many more students for their life dreams.
