The “relaxing norms” of NMC for medical colleges?
The NMC has set up a policy that will lead to disturbance in medical education and push ahead the privatisation in the medical sector. This has increased the fear of experts and doctors. The ‘Draft Establishment of Medical College Regulations (Amendment) 2022’ had been posted on 19th September in the official website of NMC. After this alteration the universities as well as the deemed-to-be-universities will not have the necessity to fulfil the condition regarding ‘fully functional hospital for a minimum of two years’ to built new colleges of medicine.
The commission has the aim to increase the number of doctors and medical colleges. The regulations totally depend on the ministry of health and family welfare (MoHFW) and it will be in force soon.
New Medical Colleges
The amendment has said that the conditions will be by passed for the medical colleges and deemed to be universities who has established and running the hospitals and colleges.
The relief will be given to those fulfilling the following conditions:
Unaffordable Medical Education
The experts of medical education are in fear about the changes in private medical colleges. The fee is increasing in private colleges. This is the main reason for going abroad of medical aspirants. The proposed regulations are increasing privatisation. By this amendment the NMC is trying to enhance the healthcare system.
In the month of August, NMC has applied for the WMFE (World Medical Education Federation). Failing this exam, the students will not be able to appear for the USMLE (United States Medical Licentiate Examination).
MBBS needs hospital
A professor of AIIMS, Patna stated that the first year syllabus includes topics about pre—clinica methods and can be taught in classrooms. On the other hand, from the 2nd year, of the MBBS course, the students are provided with a posting in hospital daily. For this system, the organisation should require a hospital as well. The doctors must be confident to see patients and learn to treat their minor ailments confidently. In addition, the students of MBBS should learn the ethics, attitude and professionalism.
NMC ‘Relaxing Norms’
The NMC has been decreasing their norms day by day for opening new medical colleges. The NMC has kept behind the rules for the land requirement of 25 acres for building a medical college.

Best thing about Vivek Gupta Sir is his selfless counselling. As I am already a BSC/ MSC, he suggested me to go to Philippines as I was able to get straight admission into MD and this finishes my entire course in 4 years flat. In any other country, it would have taken by 5.5-6 years. Ms Kanimojhi in Chennai office of GKWorks was equally supportive in coordination regarding documents, departure and all other formalities.
We live 100 Km’s away from Varanasi. The internet connection in our town is very weak and my parents are not that educated. For us, understanding the word RTGS was also very difficult. Thanks to Amit Pandey Sir, who is Gkworks Varanasi incharge, he helped us to do all small things. Going with us to get forex to helping us doing RTGS for fee payment, he was always there with us. He only helped us to apply for passport online and went with us to passport office Varanasi. Such support at ground level was provided by GKworks team both in Varanasi and Delhi.
My parents were not very comfortable to send me abroad especially my mother as I am the only son of my parents. I really wanted to become a doctor and thus approached Hemant Mishra Sir, director of Bareilly branch of GKWorks. He went out of his way to convince my mother. He would have come 5 times to my home, invited us to his office and home 10 times before my mother was finally convinced. It is only due to Hemant Sir in Bareilly that I am pursuing my course today. I wish GKworks and especially Bareilly branch all the very best to help many more students for their life dreams.
