RELAXATION TO POST GRADUATE WORK PERMIT RULES FOR THE ALLOWANCE OF ONLINE LEARNING (OUTSIDE CANADA)
All around the world, post- secondary institutions have decided to hold their summer terms through alternate modes of teaching, like the online system of learning.
Alternate modes of teaching, other than front to front teaching has been opted by Canadian institutions (Fall Term) with the exception of only a few classes in which physical presence is mandatory- lab practical, shops, skill enhancement trainings, etc.
Even though these steps ensure the safety of the entire student body and their families, when it comes to the faculty and staff, they have led to employment and detention challenges.
Many studies over the news and online articles are showing that the quality of online education and concerns regarding the student experience are withholding and halting the working of the education system.
Most of the challenges include-
Another benefit of studying in Canada, is that the student will be entitled to the Post-Graduate Work Permit, which allows him/her to stay and work for up to 3 years after graduation. This is often used my many to convert into permanent residence, ending in Canadian Citizenship.
For students pursuing distance learning through modes of online teaching, their online work time will be deducted from the length of time that they have been allowed under the Post-Graduate Work Permit. This hence has a drawback since many international students would not like to study through the online process and hence might go for other alternatives.
However, IRCC declared an alteration to the eligibility rules for the Post Graduate Work Permit program, for studies and admissions taken between now and December 31,2020. According to this, a student can earn credits even if they begin their classes online irrespective of them being inside or outside Canada and complete their study program by 50% through distance learning.
Things to be kept in mind-
New innovative programs are being revealed and explored by the post-secondary institutions such as shorter certificate programs, badges and micro credential supported programs, which will be advantageous to students on deciding their mid-stream. The last area of though and the most important one will be to carefully analyse how these programs will fit into the permit system and how the students on understanding the conditions and consequences) will benefit from them.

Best thing about Vivek Gupta Sir is his selfless counselling. As I am already a BSC/ MSC, he suggested me to go to Philippines as I was able to get straight admission into MD and this finishes my entire course in 4 years flat. In any other country, it would have taken by 5.5-6 years. Ms Kanimojhi in Chennai office of GKWorks was equally supportive in coordination regarding documents, departure and all other formalities.
We live 100 Km’s away from Varanasi. The internet connection in our town is very weak and my parents are not that educated. For us, understanding the word RTGS was also very difficult. Thanks to Amit Pandey Sir, who is Gkworks Varanasi incharge, he helped us to do all small things. Going with us to get forex to helping us doing RTGS for fee payment, he was always there with us. He only helped us to apply for passport online and went with us to passport office Varanasi. Such support at ground level was provided by GKworks team both in Varanasi and Delhi.
My parents were not very comfortable to send me abroad especially my mother as I am the only son of my parents. I really wanted to become a doctor and thus approached Hemant Mishra Sir, director of Bareilly branch of GKWorks. He went out of his way to convince my mother. He would have come 5 times to my home, invited us to his office and home 10 times before my mother was finally convinced. It is only due to Hemant Sir in Bareilly that I am pursuing my course today. I wish GKworks and especially Bareilly branch all the very best to help many more students for their life dreams.
