NEET UG 2022: 92,000 MBBS seats 

 

In the nation, there’s many 612 medical colleges, 322 of which are public and 290 private. Over 48,000 of the 92,000 MBBS seats earmarked for the session 2022–23 will be in government colleges, while approximately 44,000 will be in private colleges, according to information provided by the Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya in a written response to a question posed by Drs. Heena Gavit (BJP) and Shrikant Eknath Shinde (Shiv Sena) in the Lok Sabha on Friday.

 

According to the minister, 3,495 additional MBBS seats have been authorised for currently operating government schools in 16 states and Union Territories through a centrally sponsored programme. He added that 22 states and UTs had approved 5,930 seats for new postgraduate courses. There will be two presentations of these seats. Additionally, there are minor states with a very low number of seats and colleges. Sikkim, for example, is the only state without even a single government medical school. Only 150 MBBS places are available in its private medical schools.

 

Seats for MBBS at Private Colleges:

  • 6,995 seats in 42 colleges in Karnataka
  • 5,500 seats in 32 colleges in Tamil Nadu
  • 5,070 seats in 33 colleges in Maharashtra
  • 4,750 seats in 32 colleges in Uttar Pradesh
  • 3,200 seats in 23 colleges in Telangana
  • 150 seats in 1 college in Sikkim
