MBBS students update who returned from Russia – Ukraine war?

Many MBBS students came back to India either during pandemic or the Russia-Ukraine war, and those students who had got their degree by 30th June 2022 will be allowed to appear for the Foreign Medical Graduate exam. A letter was written regarding this to Shashi Tharoor by the Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.

To this, Shashi Tharoor added on twitter that “it will leave 99 per cent of students in limbo”.

According to the letter the students had to do 2 years of Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship (CRMI) instead for the existing 1 year.

Mandaviya stated that all the Foreign Medical Students will get opportunity in either “Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations, 2021 ” and “ Screening Test Regulations, 2002 ”.

He also said that there is not such rule, to shift the Foreign Medical Institute students to Indian Medical Institute.

As per the decision by Supreme Court, the NMC released a notice stating that  due to Covid -19 or the Russia – Ukraine war, the students who were in their last year of graduation and students who had completed their graduation and had got degree before 30th June 2022 will be allowed to appear in the Foreign Medical Graduate exam.

After that, the students who qualify the FMG exam will have to do 2 years of Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship (CRMI) in which they will get more practical knowledge which they would have missed due to pandemic or other reason.
