Is it wise to study MBBS in Philippines?

Philippines is not only globally recognized for its beauty and being a popular tourist destination, but is also slowly gaining attention for its medical universities. It particularly attracts Indian students for its affordability alongside quality. Many students that have previously immigrated to Philippines for the same have reverted back with quite some positive feedback.

Philippines, as a country, is an archipelago of 700 islands and islets in Southeast Asia. This unique country attained such reputation in higher education for its advanced and sophisticated teaching methods and scientific approaches. These institutes also have a fast document processing with the added benefit of an easy application process.

The benefits of MBBS in Philippines are innumerable. One of the greatest benefits of studying here is global recognition – the affiliations, recognitions and other parameters are an immensely important factor deciding upon initial career success. Some bodies recognizing top Philippine’s universities are:

  • Ministry of Education, Philippines
  • Medical Council of India (MCI)
  • World Health Organization (WHO)
  • Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG)
  • World Federation for Medical Education (WFME)
  • The Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER)

A list of generic advantages and disadvantages include –

Advantages

  • No entrance test or hassle during the admission process (except NEET qualification).
  • No capitalization fees
  • Availability of MCI-recognized universities for further screening test in India
  • Broad exposure to clinical practices with access to highly equipped multi-profile hospitals.
  • Philippines is the 3rd largest English-speaking country and thus, there are no language restrictions.
  • No donations are asked for during admissions.
  • Low and affordable tuition fee.
  • Low cost of living.
  • Acknowledgement by WHO and MCI.
  • Follow an English mode of teaching
  • Comfortable hostel accommodations
  • Provide eligibility to work in government hospitals – Gov. hospitals in Philippines also offer practical training to medical students.

Disadvantages

  • Filipino as the local language may bring students to unease outside of university campus or when interacting with locals.
  • Putting in extra efforts to learn Filipino after class hours.
  • Tough visa process which takes more than two months after document submissions
  • Incredibly cold climate that many students find it hard to adapt to.
  • Working while studying to cover expenses may cause distraction and issues with time-management.

An important factor on deciding whether a country is suitable for moving for an individual is first understanding its structure, understanding how it differentiates from the home country. Whether choosing a country is wise or unwise, like many other things, is a subjective topic.

Client Testimonial

MBBS Abroad is a big decision and your success depends upon the honesty of your consultant. It is a long process starting from choosing the right college to reaching there at college door step and finally studying there for next 5-6 years. You are in a new country without many old friends. We were sure to approach a consultant who is based out of our district only so that not only during admission but for next 6 years, we can have smooth interactions. So, we approached GKWorks as they have a branch in Saharanpur. As we anticipated, there are lot of things to be done during admission process that goes for 3-4 months. At every step, it was useful for us to have our consultant who was only 20 minutes’ drive from our home. We were able to discuss everything face to face any day and thus were able to have easy process.
