Is an MBBS in Ukraine a good option?

Ukraine, a country located in Eastern Europe, is slowly gaining its popularity among medical students all over the globe, specifically India. However, before applying it must be kept in mind that the education received in Ukraine differs from that being offered in India – this may become a problem when taking the FMGE (licensing program for foreign students) to practice in India. However, it is true that the worthy shall always receive. An overview of why Ukraine is a viable option for many medical aspirants is enlisted below:

  1. Low Education Costs
What makes Ukraine stand out the most are its low tuition fee and living costs. Many Indian students instead of settling for a private university within India opt to study in countries like Ukraine instead that offer the same or higher quality of medical education at relatively lower costs. This also makes Ukraine stand out from top destinations of the US, the UK, or Canada.
  1. English Courses
The country has a high intake of foreign students and imparts most of its courses in English. This makes it easier for the educated Indian class since English is taught at a large scale since childhood. Unlike most nations, Ukrainian universities do not ask for language certification, i.e., IELTS or TOEFL to be admitted into their programmes for students of non-native English-speaking countries.
  1. Recognized Universities
Many of Ukraine’s public and private universities are recognized and accredited by world’s major organizations like WHO and UNESCO. It is also easy for Indian students to find an MCI-recognized university to apply to. This ensures that they do not have trouble when applying to examinations in India for further education or practising medicine.
  1. Availability of Student Jobs
Students in Ukraine can apply for student jobs, work an approximate of four hours per day and manage their own living costs while studying in the country. However, this should only be opted by those who do not let jobs or recreational activities affect their educations. The students working can expect to earn an average of 500 USD every month, and even more working full-time during vacations.
  1. Employment Opportunities
Being a part of Europe, MBBS universities based in Ukraine are a part of the Bologna Agreement. This implies that upon graduation, you do not only have employment opportunities within Ukraine, but all of Europe that is a part of the agreement. Ukraine also offers a huge number of paid internship opportunities to students enrolled in courses.
  1. Easy Admission Procedure
With no exams involved, the process of getting into a Ukrainian university is fairly easy and hassle-free. It also includes not waiting for a counselling session to go-on and weighing your chances while in anxiety. It’s a simple way of submitting the documents asked for and awaiting an answer. The university will send out a response whether you’re accepted or rejected, after which students can act accordingly.

The Problems of Applying to Ukraine’s Universities

When moving to a country, it is not only essential to know the benefits of the place but also its setbacks and issues. Outside the realm of generic issues caused by a difference in climatic conditions with Ukraine’s cold environment and cultural differences, there’s a greater deal that a few students at Ukraine point out: Corruption.

Especially in India, agencies have taken advantage of the reputation Ukraine is gaining and turned it into a money-laundering system. Students can be trapped by agencies, get them to Ukraine and lead to over-admissions. A higher popularity in students and a misbalance in student-faculty ratio results in a drop in the quality of education imparted. Another consequence of these agencies promising admissions is that when the unworthy reach the universities, they fail KROK examinations and give the university a bad reputation. A university’s reputation ultimately affects all its members.

A good way to stay out of it is not consider the opinion of student agents with affiliations to counselling services but rather to contact and connect with genuine students who aren’t paid to promote. If contacting agencies, thorough research should be put in. Once accepted into a university and in Ukraine, the best bet is to not get into corruption and miss out on classes – it may get you through university, but it will not deem you to be a doctor. The path is to attend actual classes and put in the effort: there’s simply no shortcut. Do not permit anyone to sell you that idea.

What You Should Do

  • Research from authentic sources including the university’s own website about the admission procedure, deadlines, and other details. If it’s confusing, most universities have services for international students to call them up and clarify.
  • Contact students. The best way to find out how to win at the application process or if its worth it is to seek multiple perspectives from genuine students. Stay unbiased towards what anyone says and weigh it all practically.
  • Seek alternatives and compare. There are a variety of countries with benefits and to get the best of it, enlist the pros and cons of each. Such comparison allows you to logically assess if what is being offered to you is worthwhile or not.

MBBS Abroad is a big decision and your success depends upon the honesty of your consultant. It is a long process starting from choosing the right college to reaching there at college door step and finally studying there for next 5-6 years. You are in a new country without many old friends. We were sure to approach a consultant who is based out of our district only so that not only during admission but for next 6 years, we can have smooth interactions. So, we approached GKWorks as they have a branch in Saharanpur. As we anticipated, there are lot of things to be done during admission process that goes for 3-4 months. At every step, it was useful for us to have our consultant who was only 20 minutes’ drive from our home. We were able to discuss everything face to face any day and thus were able to have easy process.
