IRCC is hiring 1,250 more employees?
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will hire up to 1,250 people, according to Canada’s Minister of Immigration Sean Fraser, and have them working there by this fall in order to reduce the growing backlog of applications and processing times.
According to Fraser on Wednesday, there is “unprecedented interest” in Canada as a destination for immigrants from all around the world.
Only four months have passed since Fraser announced actions on April 22 to alleviate the labour shortfall in Canada. These initiatives included:
In April, Fraser said, “Canada needs to look at every option because the economy is expanding faster than firms can hire new people. We need to have the skills and labour needed to support our growth.”
Applications backlog was still expanding in July
The backlog of applications at the IRCC increased to 2.62 million by mid-July from 2.39 million at the end of the first week of June, or almost a month earlier.
Fraser explained that the IRCC’s diminished capacity to handle applications during the COVID-19 pandemic, when many federal workers started working from home, is to blame for the mounting backlog of applications.
The number of applications from those seeking to immigrate to Canada has also significantly grown as a result of Ottawa’s reactions to the humanitarian crises in Afghanistan and Ukraine.
To reduce processing times after receiving $85 million, more IRCC employees were hired.
These additional employees follow the $85 million in support Ottawa gave to the IRCC in its Economic and Fiscal Update 2021, money set aside to cut wait times and restore service levels to those prior to the outbreak.
The immigration minister claimed that the department had succeeded in doing so in a number of “critical areas,” including the 12-month service requirement for family reunification through spousal sponsorship and the six-month service requirement for the Express Entry permanent residence pathway.
He gave the processing of a record number of 406,025 new permanent residents to Canada by the IRCC last year as an illustration. By the end of 2022, the IRCC expects to have accepted 463,250 new permanent residents.
According to a statement from the IRCC, Canada has already welcomed nearly 275,000 new permanent residents in the first seven months of this year. Additionally, the number of work permits issued is rapidly increasing. The IRCC awarded little more than 199,000 work permits throughout the year.
Also, significantly more international students are receiving study visas.
According to the immigration service, “IRCC finalised nearly 560,000 study visa applications in 2021, breaking our previous record from 2019 by 31%.” “IRCC is already exceeding that figure in 2022, with over 360,000 study permits finalised between Jan. 1 and July 31, 2022, compared to around 306,000 finalised during the same period in 2021,” the report states.

Best thing about Vivek Gupta Sir is his selfless counselling. As I am already a BSC/ MSC, he suggested me to go to Philippines as I was able to get straight admission into MD and this finishes my entire course in 4 years flat. In any other country, it would have taken by 5.5-6 years. Ms Kanimojhi in Chennai office of GKWorks was equally supportive in coordination regarding documents, departure and all other formalities.
We live 100 Km’s away from Varanasi. The internet connection in our town is very weak and my parents are not that educated. For us, understanding the word RTGS was also very difficult. Thanks to Amit Pandey Sir, who is Gkworks Varanasi incharge, he helped us to do all small things. Going with us to get forex to helping us doing RTGS for fee payment, he was always there with us. He only helped us to apply for passport online and went with us to passport office Varanasi. Such support at ground level was provided by GKworks team both in Varanasi and Delhi.
My parents were not very comfortable to send me abroad especially my mother as I am the only son of my parents. I really wanted to become a doctor and thus approached Hemant Mishra Sir, director of Bareilly branch of GKWorks. He went out of his way to convince my mother. He would have come 5 times to my home, invited us to his office and home 10 times before my mother was finally convinced. It is only due to Hemant Sir in Bareilly that I am pursuing my course today. I wish GKworks and especially Bareilly branch all the very best to help many more students for their life dreams.
