The NMC (National Medical Commission) has announced the instructions for PG Training Programmes that are competency based for students of MS in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The main aim of PG education is to develop specialization where one could enhanced standard health care as well as progress the science advancement through training and research. 

The main aim of MS Obstetrics and Gynaecology is to systematize these subjects at PG levels across India so that it will help in attaining uniformity and increase expertization. The main aim of this article is to spread the knowledge among learners and teachers the instructions to attain proper outcomes. 

Learning Objectives which are Subject Specific:

Programme Objectives:

The main aim for these MS programmes is to form Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, competent in nature, who can:

  1. impart quality care in the diagnosis as well as management of Antenatal, Intra-natal as well as Post-natal period in normal and abnormal pregnancy as well as labour.
  2. impart proper care to a woman who is pregnant with complicated situations.
  3. function obstetrical ultrasound during normal as well as abnormal pregnancy by using Doppler.
  4. impart effective care to neonate who is at high risk or normal.
  5. control the emergencies properly and in any situation provides proper referrals.
  6. impart care with quality with gynaecological problems which includes screening as well as management of cancers during pregnancy.
  7. rovide a proper evaluation for couples who are infertile and should have wide knowledge in reproductive technologies like in vitro fertilization, ovulation induction, intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection, surrogacy, gamete donation as well as ethical and legal implications.
  8. imparts counselling as well as delivery of regulation methods of fertility that includes reversible and irreversible contraception, emergency contraception and more.
  9. impart care with quality to women who have spontaneous abortion or asking for MTP (Medical Termination of Pregnancy).

Subject Specific Competencies

  1. Cognitive Domain

At the end of the course the students will gain knowledge in the following 

  • Understand the health requirement of women and adolescents as well as carries professional obligations with the rules of National Health Policy and professional ethics.
  • Has gained the competencies related to Obstetrics and Gynaecology that are needed to practice at all levels. 
  • On benign and malignant gynaecological disorders.
  • On Gynaecological Endocrinology and infertility.
  • On elucidation of different laboratory investigations and other modalities of diagnostics.
  • On necessities of Pediatric as well as adolescent Gynaecology.
  • Should communicate with the family as well as community.
  • Maintain records of medicinal value accurately and have the knowledge of medical legal aspects.
  • Has gained skills in educating medical and paramedical professionals.
  • Learn asepsis, sterilization and disposal of medical waste.
  1. Ethical and Legal Issues

 

The students of PG should gain knowledge about the principles as well as legal issues on informed consent with awareness of the implication for the child who is unborn, examinations for post-mortem which includes vasectomy. On the other hand parental consent, medical certification as well as maintain medical records.

  1. Management of Risk

The PG students should reveal a working knowledge and their management relationship to clinical governance as well as techniques of complaints.

  1. Confidentiality

The PG students should 

  1. Be cautious about the proper strategies to assure confidentiality.
  2. Explain the rules of adult teaching as well as teach procedures that are common. In addition should involve in educational programmes.
  3. Be up to date with current advances as well as practice medicine that are evidence based.

 

  1. The PG student should
  • Know about the computing systems that are principles of collecting data, storage, analysis, retrieval and presentation.
  • Understand improvement of quality and learn to perform, interpret and use audit cycles and the applications, instructions and procedures.
  • Know the National Health Programmes and must be up to date with the Acts and Laws related to these subjects.

 

Health of Adolescent Girls as well as Post-Menopausal Woman 

The students should know

  1. About the good health of adolescent as well as postmenopausal women.
  2. Identify the problems.
  3. Understand and plan the programmes based on educational, social as well as health need.
  4. Education on rights nd confidentiality of women.
  5. Problems on geriatric.

Legal Aspects of Medicine

  • Information related to Acts and Laws, mainly MTP Act and sterilization Preconception and P.N.D.T. Act.
  • Information related to proper records, findings, investigation reports.
  • Information regarding the steps taken when a patient dies.

  • Enhance communicative skills.
  • Adopt ethical principles and should carry on etiquette.
  • Should work as a part of a team, must be cooperative.

 

  • Psychomotor Domain

 

Operative Skills

  1. Obstetrics: Venesection culdocentesis
  • Use of forceps and ventouse
  • Conduct caesarean section delivery
  • Elimination of placenta manually
  • Managing the genital tract injuries.
  • Post mortem sterilization
  • Medical end of pregnancy
  1.  Gynaecology: Endometrial/ cervical biopsy
  • Opening and closing of abdomen
  • Pelvic organ prolapsed operation
  • Ectopic pregnancy operation
  • Hysterectomy: Vaginal and Abdominal

Teaching and Learning Methods

  1. Lectures, seminars, departmental meetings.
  2. Encouraging students to take part in conferences.
  3. Maintaining log book.
  4. Writing of thesis.
  5. Participate in teaching and training programmes.
  6. One poster presentation, to read a paper at a conference.
  7. Encourage to do activities.

Practical and Clinical Training

  • Put effort in self learning and group discussions.
  • Should train about proper clinical examination, surgical management.

Quarterly assessment should be based on 

  1. Journal or recent advancement
  2. Laboratory/ skill based
  3. Departmental learning
  4. External and Outreach activities

PG Examination will be in three parts:

  1. Thesis
  2. Theory Examination
