IELTS Retake: 9 Strategies to Help You Clear IELTS

Setbacks are a part of life, and for those of you, who have just recently experienced one of these pesky hurdles in the form of an insufficient grade in your IELTS, it is time to make a choice. If you truly want to gain education internationally, you might have made the choice of retaking IELTS.

Good.
Now you might be wondering, what can you do better this time?

Read on to discover our top 10 strategies for performing better this time round in your IELTS exam.

#1 Take A Break

Whilst your first instinct might be to go all in and throw yourself back into your studies, we advise you to step back and take a break. Unless you are truly pushed for time, a break will be a good thing for you, re-energizing and refreshing your mind. This will help you return to your IELTS preparation with much more vigor and focus than before.

#2 Refocus and Plan

Think about your next exam. Unless you are planning for a regrade, if you assume that your grade was somewhat accurate, you will have an idea of where you stand.
Concentrate on the present and plan out your strategy accordingly, keeping in view your present situation and your expected destination.

#3 Identify Your Mistakes

If you don’t learn from your mistakes, you will most likely make them again. The most crucial thing to do while preparing for a retake is to identify what you did wrong the first time. Maybe, slightly illegible handwriting cost you the writing section. Hence, do a proper analysis to learn what you did right and what you didn’t, and then improve upon these so that you don’t make the same errors again.
In other words, be the change you wish you see in your IELTS results.

#4 Build a Strategy

Plan how you will utilize your time for preparing again for IELTS. This is similar to making a study schedule for IELTS the first time. This time though you will know what your weak points are. So, make a strategy accordingly.

#5 Practice Regularly

There is an apt English expression, “use it or lost it”. The more time you spend practicing, the better you will get. A retake is an opportunity, and necessity, for you to practice and improve regularly. Learning a language requires practice. The more you work on it, the skilled you become.

#6 Consider Hiring a Teacher

If you couldn’t perform well before by self-study, then that might point towards the requirement of a tutor. A tutor can guide you towards the strategies and tips through their experience, point out as well as reduce your errors and help you move forward in an organized manner.

#7 Performance Checks

Take practice exams and mock tests regularly to check the level of your preparation. In case you feel that your performance level should be higher, then it might be prudent to take a look at your strategies and study material.

#8 Upgrade Where Possible

For IELTS speaking and writing sections, think about upgrading your grammar and vocabulary. If you are using a more generic word, consider improving it to something more sophisticated. If your sentences are overly short, work on making them longer and complex.

Remember that you are only trying to get a certain percentage and not aiming to reach the peak of perfection. If you are aiming for a 7, then don’t beat yourself up for not getting a 9.

Hence, your aim is to get a certain amount of questions right, not all of them. So, practice accordingly.

#9 Be Prepared for the Big Day

Go to the examination hall with a positive mind-set. Remember that some people have passed the exam after multiple failed attempts. So work constructively and with tried and tested strategies. Be calm and don’t let the fear of failure cloud your mind.
Good Luck!

MBBS Abroad is a big decision and your success depends upon the honesty of your consultant. It is a long process starting from choosing the right college to reaching there at college door step and finally studying there for next 5-6 years. You are in a new country without many old friends. We were sure to approach a consultant who is based out of our district only so that not only during admission but for next 6 years, we can have smooth interactions. So, we approached GKWorks as they have a branch in Saharanpur. As we anticipated, there are lot of things to be done during admission process that goes for 3-4 months. At every step, it was useful for us to have our consultant who was only 20 minutes’ drive from our home. We were able to discuss everything face to face any day and thus were able to have easy process.
