Designing an ideal MCAT study guide is a key aspect of preparing for the MCAT. However, it can be the most difficult task. The AAMC suggests that an average pre-med student spends about 300 to 350 hours in preparation for the MCAT. The three months’ time might seem more than enough for you to prepare, yet it is mandatory to allot many hours of study time in a weekly order to score competitively on the MCAT. Given below is a weekly plan created to assist you in scoring well.
Before you begin your preparations, you have to identify and collect the required study materials. Following are some of the recommended materials.
That’ll be the best place to start your MCAT preparations. You are advised to review information about test logistics, content, and timing found in the Essentials Guide.
The MCAT website has four full-length practice tests available.
The AAMC website has two different packages of practice questions. The Official MCAT Section Bank has 300 practice questions separated into three section packs: natural sciences, behavioral sciences, and social sciences. The Official MCAT Question Packs have passages and questions from retired MCAT tests covering Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills (CARS).
Kaplan’s Adaptive QBank saves you time with the important questions by adjusting to your skill level as you work. You’ll start learning from your mistakes and hike your score.
You get the printed resources that cover the subject matter from all the test sections and access to three full-length practice tests online and additional science videos with Kaplan’s MCAT books. The book set gives complete details on the scaled scores and percentiles for each section as well as brief explanations for every question. Additionally, Kaplan’s MCAT 528 Advanced Prep Book and Online Resources will give you more preparation.
An online calendar can prove to be helpful in keeping track and accessing your personal study plan from any place. You can also share your calendar with others as they can help you stay on track.
If studying and planning a schedule on your own seems hard to you, you can sign up for classes like Kaplan’s MCAT Prep.
After collecting the required materials, it’s time you start studying. As you have a whole 3 months to study, you can begin by reviewing the test content broadly which helps you to pick up points from each section of the test. Focusing on the material you know well can boost your confidence, but it won’t help you to be productive with your score as you can’t find enough time to spend on the content you’re less confident in.
You can use the study plan given below.
Start with the basic subjects and allot time for different topics each day. Try to focus on individual topics for a minimum of one and a half hours. Check out on how your first-week calendar looks like:

Best thing about Vivek Gupta Sir is his selfless counselling. As I am already a BSC/ MSC, he suggested me to go to Philippines as I was able to get straight admission into MD and this finishes my entire course in 4 years flat. In any other country, it would have taken by 5.5-6 years. Ms Kanimojhi in Chennai office of GKWorks was equally supportive in coordination regarding documents, departure and all other formalities.
We live 100 Km’s away from Varanasi. The internet connection in our town is very weak and my parents are not that educated. For us, understanding the word RTGS was also very difficult. Thanks to Amit Pandey Sir, who is Gkworks Varanasi incharge, he helped us to do all small things. Going with us to get forex to helping us doing RTGS for fee payment, he was always there with us. He only helped us to apply for passport online and went with us to passport office Varanasi. Such support at ground level was provided by GKworks team both in Varanasi and Delhi.
My parents were not very comfortable to send me abroad especially my mother as I am the only son of my parents. I really wanted to become a doctor and thus approached Hemant Mishra Sir, director of Bareilly branch of GKWorks. He went out of his way to convince my mother. He would have come 5 times to my home, invited us to his office and home 10 times before my mother was finally convinced. It is only due to Hemant Sir in Bareilly that I am pursuing my course today. I wish GKworks and especially Bareilly branch all the very best to help many more students for their life dreams.
