INTRODUCTION TO FMGE / MCI SCREENING TEST
The screening Test Regulation 2002 introduced the FMGE screening test. Section 13 of the act states that “An Indian citizen or overseas citizen of India who is having a medical qualification from an institute outside India and wants to get registered with Medical Council Of India or any State Medical Council on or after 15 of march 2002 will have to qualify the screening test conducted the prescribed authority.
To get a permanent license in India you will have to qualify the FMGE screening test. The test is conducted by National Board of Examination in June and December every year. FMGE Screening Test is unofficially known as the MCI Screening Test. Soon FMGE will be replaced by the National Exit Test (NEXT). which will be applicable for both Indian and non-Indian students.
NEXT is proposed under the National Medical Commission Bill (NMC). It will be a common exam for all final year students of MBBS in India. Clearing the examination students will be licensed to practice medicine. NEXT was bought in 2019 and shall be implemented within 3 years. NEXT is proposed to become an examination equivalent to NEET PG.
NEXT will replace the final year MBBS exam conducted by individual universities and will compile them into one. only the meritorious students will be permitted for future studies in the field of medicine in India. Also, FMGE will be replaced by NEXT so students studying outside India and wish to practice in India will have to qualify NEXT.
Below we have listed some FAQ related to FMGE
FMGE test is allowed to students of colleges recognized by MCI only. If you take admission in college not recognized by MCI you won’t be allowed to sit in the FMGE test.
FMGE test is conducted in the month of JUNE and DECEMBER every year.
There is no restriction on the number of attempts. You can attempt this test as many time you want.

3.New Zealand
4.The United Kingdom/
5.The United States of America shall not have to qualify for the screening test.
Yes, MCI is compulsory for Indian students who desire to get permits in India.
