First Batch of MBA for Working Professionals Launched by IIM Nagpur
On October 28, 2021, the Indian Institute of Management Nagpur (IIMN), at the Nagpur campus, welcomed its first-ever batch, consisting of 33 participants, for the ‘MBA Programme for Working Professionals.’ The participants have an average of ten years of work experience and are currently employed in a variety of industries and roles.
The Chief Guest for the occasion was Shri C P Gurnani, Chairperson, Board of Governors – IIM Nagpur, & MD & CEO of Tech Mahindra, and the Guest of Honor was Mr. S Ganesh Mani, Manufacturing Director & Board Member of Hyundai Motor India Ltd. A brief overview of the programme was provided by Prof. Saurabh Pandya, Chairperson of the MBA Programme for Working Professionals. He emphasized upon the efforts that went into designing the program, as well as upon the detailed and intricate 3-step selection procedure that the candidates had to go through to gain admission to IIM Nagpur.
Dr. Bhimaraya Metri, Director of IIM Nagpur, gave a word of congratulation to the students on their admission to this program at his welcome address. He said that this first batch will be remembered for the rest of the institute’s as well as for Nagpur’s history. The program’s goal is to provide participants with leadership skills, entrepreneurial mindset, and managerial skills, for them to lead unknown roads in unborn companies. Providing them with so will help them to navigate their career path with the help of lifelong learning and knowledge.
In his keynote address, Mr. S Ganesh Mani shared his experiences as a student for a similar Programme for Working Professionals 20 years ago. He emphasized how, over time, business models and the entire way of conducting business have changed. He advised the participants to unlearn, keep an open mind, and make the most out of these two years with faculty and peers with the goal of mutual learning.
In his inaugural address, Shri C. P. Gurnani congratulated the students and encouraged them to become entrepreneur-managers rather than just managers, i.e. to solve business problems with an entrepreneurial mindset. He emphasized the importance of delving deeply into the analysis to find more effective solutions and leveraging available data sources to make more evidence-based decisions.

Best thing about Vivek Gupta Sir is his selfless counselling. As I am already a BSC/ MSC, he suggested me to go to Philippines as I was able to get straight admission into MD and this finishes my entire course in 4 years flat. In any other country, it would have taken by 5.5-6 years. Ms Kanimojhi in Chennai office of GKWorks was equally supportive in coordination regarding documents, departure and all other formalities.
We live 100 Km’s away from Varanasi. The internet connection in our town is very weak and my parents are not that educated. For us, understanding the word RTGS was also very difficult. Thanks to Amit Pandey Sir, who is Gkworks Varanasi incharge, he helped us to do all small things. Going with us to get forex to helping us doing RTGS for fee payment, he was always there with us. He only helped us to apply for passport online and went with us to passport office Varanasi. Such support at ground level was provided by GKworks team both in Varanasi and Delhi.
My parents were not very comfortable to send me abroad especially my mother as I am the only son of my parents. I really wanted to become a doctor and thus approached Hemant Mishra Sir, director of Bareilly branch of GKWorks. He went out of his way to convince my mother. He would have come 5 times to my home, invited us to his office and home 10 times before my mother was finally convinced. It is only due to Hemant Sir in Bareilly that I am pursuing my course today. I wish GKworks and especially Bareilly branch all the very best to help many more students for their life dreams.
