Draft National Education Policy 2019 proposes Exit Exam for MBBS, Increase in PG Medical seats
The deadline for the submission of comments and suggestions on the Draft National Education Policy 2019 has been extended by the Ministry of Human Resource Development. Recommendations and suggestions by the public and stakeholders can be submitted till July 31, 2019. The announcement was made as there were demands from various quarters of the Rajya Sabha.
Basically, the Draft National Education Policy 2019 aims at improving the key areas of education and bring some transformation in the current policies. Another aim of the education policy is to focus on the entrance test for admission to PG courses in the Health Sciences. It has already been observed that there is lack of doctors and medical staff. Around 600 hospitals need upgradation from hospital to teaching hospitals. The policy upgradation should be incorporated as soon as possible which can be done by making investment in infrastructure for medical specialities.
Issue of lack of seats in postgraduate courses is also in focus of Draft National Education Policy as seats available in postgraduate courses is half of the seats available in MBBS courses. There is a need of increase in the seats in postgraduate courses as per the hospital’s infrastructure. This would lead to rise in number of students applying for post-graduation courses.
There is also a proposal for introducing a certificate skills-based training programme to the Ministry of Human Resource Development. These skill-based training programme would include Laboratory Technicians, General Duty Assistants and Emergency Medical Technicians. The duration of certificate programme is proposed to be of 1-2 years.
The Draft National Education Policy 2019 is also focussing on proposing an exit exam for MBBS courses. The main purpose of this exit exam (if approved) is admission into the Post Graduate courses. If the exit exams get approved would not only save time of the students but also reduce stress of appearing for a separate entrance exam.

Best thing about Vivek Gupta Sir is his selfless counselling. As I am already a BSC/ MSC, he suggested me to go to Philippines as I was able to get straight admission into MD and this finishes my entire course in 4 years flat. In any other country, it would have taken by 5.5-6 years. Ms Kanimojhi in Chennai office of GKWorks was equally supportive in coordination regarding documents, departure and all other formalities.
We live 100 Km’s away from Varanasi. The internet connection in our town is very weak and my parents are not that educated. For us, understanding the word RTGS was also very difficult. Thanks to Amit Pandey Sir, who is Gkworks Varanasi incharge, he helped us to do all small things. Going with us to get forex to helping us doing RTGS for fee payment, he was always there with us. He only helped us to apply for passport online and went with us to passport office Varanasi. Such support at ground level was provided by GKworks team both in Varanasi and Delhi.
My parents were not very comfortable to send me abroad especially my mother as I am the only son of my parents. I really wanted to become a doctor and thus approached Hemant Mishra Sir, director of Bareilly branch of GKWorks. He went out of his way to convince my mother. He would have come 5 times to my home, invited us to his office and home 10 times before my mother was finally convinced. It is only due to Hemant Sir in Bareilly that I am pursuing my course today. I wish GKworks and especially Bareilly branch all the very best to help many more students for their life dreams.
