Want to pursue studies in Canada with backlogs? The answer is yes, you are eligible for getting admitted even with backlogs. Even though many Canadian Universities accept students based on merit, few of the reputed Canadian Universities/Colleges are lenient in the admission process. They select the deserved & eligible international students even with backlogs to continue their studies in Canada.
Canadian Universities takes into account your backlog on the basis of the number of subjects or in some instances the time taken by you to clear them. Usually low-grades & absenteeism are the main reasons behind the arrears. Yet, maintaining a good overall score in the reappearing exam pushes the Universities to having no valid reason to reject your application. Having a decent percentage in standardized exams like IELTS etc. will also diminish the impact of backlogs in your application.
Besides that, your scores in core papers of your graduation determines the processing of your application. If you are applying to the Computer Science & you have an excellent score in Programming Language subjects, your chances of acceptance improve, despite the fact that you have backlogs in other subjects. This hikes your probability in comparison to other candidates with backlogs.
But it is quite certain that you won’t be able to apply for any Canadian universities with active backlogs.
As per the accepted rule of thumb, the reputed Canadian Universities given below accept the deserving candidates, even with 10 plus backlogs:
Always make sure not to submit your mark sheets that comprise your backlog details. Submit the ones given by your University after the clearance of the backlog subjects.
In Canada, candidates with at most 5 backlogs & with a minimum of 70% in bachelor’s degree are easily accepted. A Few universities may also accept candidates with 7 or 8 backlogs & with a minimum of 65% and above in bachelor’s degree in PG degree programmes.
Students having more than 10 or 12 backlogs are also eligible to apply for PG diplomas in Canada. Besides that, the admissions may be granted for candidates with a higher number of backlogs, but on a case-to-case basis. Anyways, you are still eligible to pursue higher studies in Canada!!
A decent CGPA will make it possible for you to get admitted in Canada despite your backlog history. However, it is totally dependent on the hands of university officials.
Always make sure to apply for more than 2 universities to maximize your chances of getting admitted there.

Best thing about Vivek Gupta Sir is his selfless counselling. As I am already a BSC/ MSC, he suggested me to go to Philippines as I was able to get straight admission into MD and this finishes my entire course in 4 years flat. In any other country, it would have taken by 5.5-6 years. Ms Kanimojhi in Chennai office of GKWorks was equally supportive in coordination regarding documents, departure and all other formalities.
We live 100 Km’s away from Varanasi. The internet connection in our town is very weak and my parents are not that educated. For us, understanding the word RTGS was also very difficult. Thanks to Amit Pandey Sir, who is Gkworks Varanasi incharge, he helped us to do all small things. Going with us to get forex to helping us doing RTGS for fee payment, he was always there with us. He only helped us to apply for passport online and went with us to passport office Varanasi. Such support at ground level was provided by GKworks team both in Varanasi and Delhi.
My parents were not very comfortable to send me abroad especially my mother as I am the only son of my parents. I really wanted to become a doctor and thus approached Hemant Mishra Sir, director of Bareilly branch of GKWorks. He went out of his way to convince my mother. He would have come 5 times to my home, invited us to his office and home 10 times before my mother was finally convinced. It is only due to Hemant Sir in Bareilly that I am pursuing my course today. I wish GKworks and especially Bareilly branch all the very best to help many more students for their life dreams.
