Countries welcoming international students in 2021
People would be expecting for the study abroad destinations to open up at the beginning of the new year. Most of the countries have initiated some plans to welcome existing students back. Others have begun processing visas for new admission of students. What are the best countries to consider? Below are the top countries from the world’s largest education hubs getting ready to welcome the students. Take into account the origin, health condition and travel history of each country while opting for one.
Existing students can return back from Christmas break in stages after they go through tests and quarantine according to official guidelines. Many institutions are expected to begin the term at the same time, yet students are encouraged to pursue online classes until face-to-face classes continue again. Though international students received good news regarding the COVID-19 vaccine it happens to come with the dispiriting surfacing of a new, more infectious strain.
Canada
Canada was the first in the major higher education hubs to reopen its borders on October 20. It has been providing study permits since then. Students who arrive must be on quarantine for 14 days before getting back to their university. The universities must also have an approved COVID-19 plan. Due to the quick action and support, international students now consider Canada as the “safe and stable” country for pursuing higher education.
France
The borders of France have been open to international students and researchers since July and processing of visas resumed in August. You can pursue education abroad in France without any restrictions if you belong to a country in a green area, which includes member states of the European Union, Australia, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, and the UK. Some other extra requirements are needed if you belong to a red-area country: an exceptional international travel certificate, a sworn statement that you are free from COVID-19 symptoms, and a contact sheet providing your address in France.
Hong Kong
International students are greeted back in Hong Kong, other than those who have been in the UK, China, or South Africa in the past 21 days for more than two hours. You must quarantine yourself for the first 21 days at a designated hotel as soon as you reach there. You have to reserve your own room and also have to show proof of accommodation before boarding the flight. Hong Kong has a stringent tracing and testing procedure. You can find it in detail on the government website.
Taiwan
Taiwan borders were reopened from June to degree-level students from 19 countries having low risk of COVID-19. Students from other countries, excluding China, were also permitted to apply for re-entry from July 22, 2020. The cost of their quarantine should be taken care of on their own.
Malaysia
International students having a valid visa can officially return to their private Malaysian institution starting Jan. 1, 2021. The visa processing also seems to resume by then. This comes with the exemption of students coming from the UK, who are still not allowed to study abroad in Malaysia amid concerns over a new COVID-19 strain. You are required to take the COVID-19 test twice. First, three days before boarding the flight and once again upon arrival. You will be required to be on quarantine for 10 days at your own expenses.
A candidate with a valid Student’s Pass can enter Singapore on getting permission from the relevant agency. All the travellers have to submit a health declaration at airport immigration. Isolating yourself for 14 days at a government-designated facility is mandatory. The government will take care of the expenses if you left before March 27, 2020.

Best thing about Vivek Gupta Sir is his selfless counselling. As I am already a BSC/ MSC, he suggested me to go to Philippines as I was able to get straight admission into MD and this finishes my entire course in 4 years flat. In any other country, it would have taken by 5.5-6 years. Ms Kanimojhi in Chennai office of GKWorks was equally supportive in coordination regarding documents, departure and all other formalities.
We live 100 Km’s away from Varanasi. The internet connection in our town is very weak and my parents are not that educated. For us, understanding the word RTGS was also very difficult. Thanks to Amit Pandey Sir, who is Gkworks Varanasi incharge, he helped us to do all small things. Going with us to get forex to helping us doing RTGS for fee payment, he was always there with us. He only helped us to apply for passport online and went with us to passport office Varanasi. Such support at ground level was provided by GKworks team both in Varanasi and Delhi.
My parents were not very comfortable to send me abroad especially my mother as I am the only son of my parents. I really wanted to become a doctor and thus approached Hemant Mishra Sir, director of Bareilly branch of GKWorks. He went out of his way to convince my mother. He would have come 5 times to my home, invited us to his office and home 10 times before my mother was finally convinced. It is only due to Hemant Sir in Bareilly that I am pursuing my course today. I wish GKworks and especially Bareilly branch all the very best to help many more students for their life dreams.
