Anxious Medical students as NExT deadline appears
The NMC has less time left for the final announcement to conduct the NExT examination for the last year students of MBBS students in 2023 in the midst of uncertainty among the medical aspirants regarding syllabus, pattern and the timing of examination. Under the NMC Act, the authority has to conduct a test known as NExT (National Exit Test) within 3 years after it has come into force. This exam will be served as a common qualifying exam for final year students of MBBS. This is an exam to get license to practice modern medicine and for getting admission in PG courses on the basis of merit. In addition, this is a bridging exam for foreign medical graduates who have will to practice in India.
The FORDA (Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association) recently asked for a clarity for conducting the NExT exam. It has come to notice that the exam might be conducted in 2024 and has extended the timeline on the basis of provisions of the Act by 24th September, 2022. The NEET PG exam is conducted around April or May every year and the exam NExT might replace that exam in the month of April or May in 2023.
However, managing an exam needs some preparations like setting the syllabus, type and pattern of the exam and whether it will be analytical or multiple choice questions. Moreover, the students should get enough time to prepare themselves for the exam. Mock tests should need to be held before the main test and the agency should be decided who will take the exam.
If such preparations are not taken by NMC then this exam must be held in 2024. The NMC in RTI (Right to Information) queries has stated that the exam will begin in 2023. The FORDA stated in their letter about the hurdles faced by PG students due to pandemic. Further they complained about the communication gap between two authorities, NMC and NBE over the future exams in 2023 and the execution of the NExT exam.
This has led to confusion to PG students and 7 month has already passed of 2022. The PG aspirants have requested to clear their doubt and publish regulations without any further delay. The NExT exam will be same for both aspirants who have studied MBBS in India or in foreign.

Best thing about Vivek Gupta Sir is his selfless counselling. As I am already a BSC/ MSC, he suggested me to go to Philippines as I was able to get straight admission into MD and this finishes my entire course in 4 years flat. In any other country, it would have taken by 5.5-6 years. Ms Kanimojhi in Chennai office of GKWorks was equally supportive in coordination regarding documents, departure and all other formalities.
We live 100 Km’s away from Varanasi. The internet connection in our town is very weak and my parents are not that educated. For us, understanding the word RTGS was also very difficult. Thanks to Amit Pandey Sir, who is Gkworks Varanasi incharge, he helped us to do all small things. Going with us to get forex to helping us doing RTGS for fee payment, he was always there with us. He only helped us to apply for passport online and went with us to passport office Varanasi. Such support at ground level was provided by GKworks team both in Varanasi and Delhi.
My parents were not very comfortable to send me abroad especially my mother as I am the only son of my parents. I really wanted to become a doctor and thus approached Hemant Mishra Sir, director of Bareilly branch of GKWorks. He went out of his way to convince my mother. He would have come 5 times to my home, invited us to his office and home 10 times before my mother was finally convinced. It is only due to Hemant Sir in Bareilly that I am pursuing my course today. I wish GKworks and especially Bareilly branch all the very best to help many more students for their life dreams.
