Children of defense personnel are no longer exempt from the UT pool
Synopsis: Under the new eligibility criteria, defense personnel or former military wards have a permanent address in Chandigarh to apply for MBBS registration with Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32 under the UT Pool. Must be. Previously, when applying for MBBS certification at Chandigarh’s UT Pool, the three residence requirements of Defense Forces / Old Service Stations were exempted.
On Tuesday, the UT administration removed all exceptions to Defense personnel and former military personnel in the MBBS admission criteria for the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Sector 32 “UT Pool” category. GMCH-32 is the only university in Chandigarh that offers MBBS courses. Of the university’s total of 150 MBBS seats, 15% are in all Indian quotas or the “central pool” and the remaining 85% (115 seats) are in the “UT pool”. Central pool seats will be filled by the central government and UT pool seats will be filled locally by the Admissions Board according to the standards set by the UT administration.
To apply for admission to the UT Pool, candidates must be approved by the Chandigarh administration and have completed 10, 11, and 12 days at a school or university in UT. Candidates whose parents have lived in Chandigarh for five years immediately prior to the application date are also eligible even if they do not meet the initial criteria.
The third criterion qualifies candidates whose parents are city government officials or central / state government officials representing Chandigarh. This includes employees working for autonomous companies/enterprises where the Chandigarh government holds an interest rate of 20% or more in the three years immediately preceding the application date, even if the above two criteria are not met. However, so far, these three residence eligibility requirements have been exempted in military / old soldier wards.
Academic sessions from 2021 to 22 found that out of a total of 115 seats in the UT pool, up to 20 Defense Forces Departments were admitted to MBBS due to eligibility exceptions. Some of them do not belong to Chandigarh or have never studied at a school or university in Chandigarh.
However, under their new qualification criteria, when entering defense services, the station must consist of on-duty defense personnel or former military personnel who have a permanent UT Chandigarh address in their work records and do not require the residence certificate from the relevant competent authority that serves as proof of this. However, the other three eligibility criteria for non-defense personnel remain the same.
Candidates in all four categories must submit an affidavit stating / affidavit that the candidate has not selected or claimed residence in a state / UT other than Chandigarh after the NEET results have been announced. there is.
This decision was made after some people challenged the exception in the High Courts of Punjab and Haryana.
Of the 20 students, 4 met one of the three criteria, but due to an exception, 16 were included in the list of benefits. The Department of Defense is also eligible via the central pool. Because of these exceptions, these exceptions added unnecessary competition to UT children, but UT children have not been given other options. The issue was examined in detail and discussed in a series of meetings according to Yashpal Garg, UT health secretary.

Best thing about Vivek Gupta Sir is his selfless counselling. As I am already a BSC/ MSC, he suggested me to go to Philippines as I was able to get straight admission into MD and this finishes my entire course in 4 years flat. In any other country, it would have taken by 5.5-6 years. Ms Kanimojhi in Chennai office of GKWorks was equally supportive in coordination regarding documents, departure and all other formalities.
We live 100 Km’s away from Varanasi. The internet connection in our town is very weak and my parents are not that educated. For us, understanding the word RTGS was also very difficult. Thanks to Amit Pandey Sir, who is Gkworks Varanasi incharge, he helped us to do all small things. Going with us to get forex to helping us doing RTGS for fee payment, he was always there with us. He only helped us to apply for passport online and went with us to passport office Varanasi. Such support at ground level was provided by GKworks team both in Varanasi and Delhi.
My parents were not very comfortable to send me abroad especially my mother as I am the only son of my parents. I really wanted to become a doctor and thus approached Hemant Mishra Sir, director of Bareilly branch of GKWorks. He went out of his way to convince my mother. He would have come 5 times to my home, invited us to his office and home 10 times before my mother was finally convinced. It is only due to Hemant Sir in Bareilly that I am pursuing my course today. I wish GKworks and especially Bareilly branch all the very best to help many more students for their life dreams.
