8 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE STUDYING ABROAD
So, here are eight things to consider before going abroad to study.
PASSPORT AND VISA
First apply for passport, and if you got one do make sure that it hasn’t expired. If it is expired, you can apply for a new one as soon as possible as it takes, 3-4 weeks to get a new one.
To study abroad, you may need a visa to a passport. Varying countries have significant visa requirements, so do make sure to check regarding your desired study abroad location’s laws. Visa applications, can take many months to process, so get it done as soon as possible.
MONEY
As we all know that every single country has its own currency. Make sure you set up an online bank account if you don’t already have one. As it can be difficult to keep a track of money because of different currency. To obtain cash in the local currency, most international travellers utilise the ATM/debit or credit cards. Do make sure to inform the bank that you’re moving abroad for your studies, because there is a possibility you card might not work or your account freezes. Also, make sure to have some cash all the time.
BUY THE REQUIRED ITEMS
Try to pack light, pack all the necessary items like clothes according to the weather, so before buying clothes research the weather of your location. Buy medicine kit like first-aid, medicines of cold, cough, headache, etc. having your own medicine is good, there is a possibility that you won’t find the medicine you want in abroad. Pack hygiene products, Comfortable Walking Shoes, Adapters for electronic devices and etc.
CONSULT A DOCTOR
Make sure to visit your doctor, research regarding all the vaccinations is required by the country because there are some specific vaccines you need to travel abroad. Get a full body check up to make sure everything is fine and do carry all your medical record with you in case of some emergency.
HEALTH AND TRAVEL INSURANCE
While studying abroad, it’s critical to have a health and travel insurance. Many overseas institutions demand health insurance as it helps you from getting ill or getting hurt. Having travel insurance helps you cover when sometimes luggage is lost, flights are cancelled or delayed, medical emergency, etc.
CULTURE AND LANGUAGE
Learn and research a little about the country to which you are travelling for your studies, such as history, geography, culture, local traditions, and so on, since this will assist you to understand the country and its people, as well as make it easier for you to settle in. Learn the local language and phrases so that you can communicate more easily and there will be no language barrier. A tutor or online language learning apps, for example, can help you learn a specific language.
BUY A PLANE TICKET
Before purchasing an airline ticket, conduct some research to assist you find inexpensive tickets and save a lot of money. Purchasing tickets three to four months in advance might also save you a lot of money.
EMERGENCY NUMBERS AND HOMESICKNESS
Keep a list of emergency contact numbers, don’t rely on international mobile packages as it can be expensive later. Buy a local SIM card, as soon as you arrive at the airport and get a plan as per your requirements. You can easily be homesick, missing family and it is normal, but you should prepare yourself mentally strong. You also miss your local food. Keep regularly calling your parents and family and talk about your day can help you overcoming these feelings.
